Going to the Dentist During COVID-19

In the past few months, many things have changed but there are some things that have managed to stay the same. One of those things is the dentist — or, more correctly, the need to go to the dentist. Even during a pandemic, your teeth still need their six-month cleanings. Pushing off a few cleanings is okay but continually neglecting to get your teeth cleaned can equal more cavities and, potentially, periodontal problems. In short, you want to keep those pearly whites as clean as possible to prevent more invasive procedures.

We know what you’re thinking. During these crazy times, the last thing you’re thinking about is going to the dentist. You’re worried about exposing yourself to the virus when you go anywhere which means you’re especially worried about going into a healthcare office. While your worries are understandable, they aren’t (in the case of our office) entirely warranted. Before COVID-19, our two main concerns were patient safety and patient comfort. That has not changed. Every day, we go above and beyond to make sure our office is safe and our patients feel taken care of. We’ve implemented a list of new policies to guarantee a healthy, virus-free environment for our staff and patients. These new protocols include:

  • Checking employee and patient temperatures at the door
  • Asking patients a list of COVID-19 screening questions before they enter the building
  • Closing off our lobby and asking patients to wait in their cars until their room is ready
  • Giving patients anti-viral mouthwash at the beginning of each appointment
  • Requiring clinical staff to wear KN-95 masks, hair coverings, face shields, and gloves at all times
  • Setting up medical-grade air filters in every room of our office
  • Proving hand sanitizer in convenient locations for patients
  • Requiring patients to wear masks when entering the building
  • Hiring a sanitization crew to come in and clean the office at the end of every workday

The process of going to the dentist has changed but we’re still here and we’re still eager to give the same level of care to our patients. Life is far from back to normal but there will always be things like toothaches and braces that require a quick trip to the dentist. As always, we promise to do everything in our power to keep you and your family safe.
