Best Dentists in Cary, North Carolina
Are you new to the Cary, North Carolina area and looking for the perfect dentist for you and your family? There are a million dental offices in the Triangle but which one is right for you? Here are a few things you should be on the lookout for when searching for a local dentist.
More than just cleanings and fillings
The bulk majority of dental offices in Cary offer baseline services. They can deliver quality cleanings and fillings, but if you’re looking for oral surgery, orthodontics, cosmetics, periodontics, or endodontics, you’ll have to look somewhere else. There are offices that offer specialized services like periodontics or endodontics but there are also dental offices that can do everything in-house.
Instead of relying on just one or two doctors, our office has four doctors who all bring unique and useful specialties to the table. With our team, we’re able to offer every kind of dental service imaginable including TMJ treatment, veneers, braces, dental implants and more. By doing this, we make your experience of going to the dentist easier. You’ll never have to search for other providers or send over x-rays and paperwork. We’ll also be able to catch abnormalities faster than the average dentist since we see our patients more regularly for ortho check-ups or oral surgeries.
We get a lot of people calling our office solely to ask if we’re in or out of network. Once we tell them that we’re out of network technically (though we do work with all insurance companies), they hang up. If they knew the reality, they’d probably be calling to make sure we’re not in-network instead of the other way around. Why? Because in-network dentist offices aren’t what they seem.
The basic difference between an in-network dentist and an out-of-network (or non-contracted) dentist is a contract. In-network dentists sign a contract saying that they will charge their patients the amount the insurance companies dictate. If the insurance company says a denture should cost $200, then the dental office has to charge only $200. If the denture ends up costing more than $200 to make, the office must absorb the charges in order to maintain the contract. People like to go to in-network dentists because insurance typically covers the entire cost of the visit whereas at out-of-network dentists, most patients have to pay a little out-of-pocket.
Why go non-contracted?
So, why would an office decide to not be in-network if that’s what a lot of patients want? It’s simple: quality of care. Dentists who are fresh out of dental school may choose to be contracted because they’re looking for a patient base and they’re trying to improve their skills (which they can’t do without practice!) Being contracted gives dentists a lot of patients but it can also lead to a lack of sufficient care in some areas which is why a lot of veteran dentists prefer to be out-of-network providers.
See, dental insurance companies force in-network offices to pay what they feel comfortable paying. Their charge rates aren’t always related to how much the procedure actually costs with materials, labor, lab costs, etc. To make ends meet (a.k.a. still turn a profit) in-network dentists may “cut corners” by using fewer assistants for procedures, partnering with cheaper dental labs, and doing things without crossing every “T” and dotting every “i”.
For things like cleanings, in-network dentists can do a great job but for more specialized procedures, an out-of-network dentist will most likely give you better results. You don’t want to get discount veneers or dental implants because they just won’t last. Spend the money upfront so you won’t end up in the dentist’s chair again a decade down the road.
