Dr. Robert Stanley traveled to Memphis TN to attend an IV Sedation recertification course August 21-23.

Dental Oral Conscious Sedation (DOCS) partnered with Oregon College of Health and Science to present the continuing education course.

The program focused on updating dentists offering sedation on the latest changes in healthcare and pharmacology as it relates to dental sedation. IV sedation is a proven and safe method to help patients who have anxiety, high gag reflex, difficulty getting numb or are medically compromised, receive quality dental care as needed.

The weekend’s programming included reviews of standard procedures and a look at new protocols. Topics ranged from respiratory and cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, airway management and emergency procedures. Coursework included classroom instruction as well as hands-on patient simulations.

One of the speakers was Dr. Leslie S.T. Fang of Massachusetts General Hospital. His lively presentation covered pharmacology of sedation, analgesia, antibiotics, cardiac heart rhythms and patient assessment.

Dr. Anthony Feck, DOCS cofounder, spoke on pharmacology. His passion for dentistry and keeping patients comfortable during dental work was evident in his presentation and inspiring to all who attended.

Stanley Dentistry has been using IV sedation as a controlled method to keep patients comfortable during complex procedures and to ease anxiety since 2008. Additionally, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation options. Dr. Stanley works with each patient to determine the best medication for their specific case.

If you have been avoiding dental procedures due to high fear or issues with local anesthetic, contact Stanley Dentistry for a complimentary consultation. We are also pleased to offer second opinion consultations at no charge.
