Experienced wisdom teeth dentist

Wisdom teeth are the four permanent adult teeth located at the back corners of your mouth. These teeth cause pain and long-term problems which is why most of our patients elect to get them removed. Even if they aren’t causing pain for a patient, we typically recommend wisdom teeth extraction for anyone who doesn’t have the room in their mouth for proper growth and alignment.

At Stanley Dentistry, Dr. Robert Stanley regularly performs wisdom teeth extractions for patients of all ages.

Why do I need my wisdom teeth removed?

When you don’t have room in your mouth for the wisdom teeth to grow in, they become impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth can often result in long-term pain, infection, or other dental problems. We oftentimes see wisdom teeth cause misalignment because, as they grow upwards, they push the surrounding teeth.

If you have had orthodontic treatment or a cosmetic dental procedure to perfect your smile, wisdom teeth removal is a preventative treatment to ensure your smile stays straight.

What is a wisdom tooth extraction like?

Wisdom teeth extraction is one of the safest and most routine surgeries Dr. Rob performs in the office. Using IV sedation, he makes sure the patient is comfortable and relaxed before starting. He then carefully removes the wisdom teeth, making sure to extract every piece of the tooth (impacted wisdom teeth are sometimes already broken). Dr. Rob finishes the procedure with a few dissolvable stitches and that’s it! All of this takes only about half an hour to complete.

After waking up, we recommend spending at least half an hour in the office to allow the sedation to wear off. Patients can take Tylenol and Advil to manage the moderate post-procedure pain. Recovery time typically lasts about a week though it varies from patient to patient.

How long will it take to remove wisdom teeth?

After your initial consultation, Dr. Rob can remove your wisdom teeth in one quick visit.

Am I a good fit for wisdom teeth removal?

Just because you can’t see your wisdom teeth doesn’t mean they won’t cause problems for you in the future. We can examine your x-rays to determine if and when your wisdom teeth need to be removed. Call us today to schedule an appointment!

Is oral surgery painful?

At Stanley Dentistry, we pride ourselves on offering stress and pain-free oral surgery. For many of our surgeries, we use IV sedation so patients don’t feel or remember the procedure at all. When they wake up from surgery, we prescribe either prescription pain killers or over-the-counter drugs such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen to manage any discomfort.Compared to other parts of the body, the mouth heals incredibly quickly. Our patients usually only need a few days of recovery after oral surgery before they’re back in their normal routine.
